There may be a time when you are experiencing a significantly slower connection to the WiFi network. If you are running into this, the below steps will help encourage your computer to a faster, more reliable connection.
This should work for Windows 7 and later. The screenshots are from Windows 10.

On right side of taskbar > Right-click on network icon
Choose Open Network and Sharing Center
Select Change adapter settings
Find your Wi-Fi connection (your connections will differ)
Right-click, Properties > Configure > Preferred Band to 5.2GHz

> In the lower-right corner of your screen, right click on your network icon.
NOTE: Icons may differ depending on a wired or wireless connection.
> Choose Network and Sharing Center
> Select Change adapter settings
> Find your Wi-Fi connection (your connections will differ)
> Go to Properties
> Select Configure
> Navigate to the Advanced Tab > Preferred Band Property
> Change the Value to Prefer 5.2GHz band
> Click OK
This will tell your laptop to prefer a WiFi connection that is in a 'less congested' airspace. The 5GHz band also allows for more quality connections for newer devices.
